Frequently Asked Questions about Stargate Finance
Everything you need to know about Stargate Finance — cross-chain bridging, fees, supported assets, and security.
Stargate Finance is a fully composable liquidity transport protocol built on top of LayerZero. It enables users to bridge native assets — including USDC, USDT, ETH, BTC, and OFTs — directly across 80+ blockchains in a single transaction, with no token wrapping required.
At its core, Stargate Finance uses a unified liquidity pool model: a single pool on each chain holds the underlying assets, and the protocol guarantees the finality of every cross-chain transfer. When you initiate a bridge transaction, Stargate Finance instantly commits to delivering your assets on the destination chain, eliminating uncertainty and failed transactions.
The protocol is permissionless and non-custodial — your assets move directly between chains without requiring trust in any central party.
Stargate Finance supports over 80 blockchains, including all major EVM and non-EVM networks. Among the most popular destinations:
- Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Avalanche, BNB Chain, Polygon
- Solana, Aptos, Sui, TON, and many more
Supported assets include native USDC, USDT, ETH, BTC, and any token deployed as an OFT (Omnichain Fungible Token) via LayerZero. New chains and tokens are regularly added via governance and protocol upgrades.
To use Stargate Finance, click the "Connect Wallet" button in the top-right corner of the interface. A modal will appear allowing you to choose your preferred wallet provider.
Supported wallets include:
- MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, Rainbow, WalletConnect-compatible wallets
- Ledger, Trezor (via MetaMask or WalletConnect)
- Phantom, Backpack (for Solana)
- And 100+ more through WalletConnect
Once connected, Stargate Finance will automatically detect your current network and available balances.
Simple Transfer is the default mode designed for most users. It allows you to bridge a token from one chain to another with minimal configuration — just select your source chain, destination chain, token, and amount.
Advanced Transfer unlocks additional options for power users, including:
- Custom destination address (send to a different wallet on the destination chain)
- Slippage tolerance adjustments
- Manual gas settings and native drop configuration
- Support for more complex cross-chain routes
Both modes use the same underlying Stargate Finance protocol infrastructure, so security and finality guarantees are identical.
No. Stargate Finance is a fully permissionless and non-custodial protocol. There is no account registration, no KYC process, and no sign-up required.
All you need to interact with Stargate Finance is a compatible Web3 wallet and the native gas token for the source chain to pay transaction fees. The protocol never takes custody of your funds — transfers happen directly on-chain through audited smart contracts.
Stargate Finance charges a small protocol fee on each transfer, typically ranging from 0.01% to 0.06% of the bridged amount. This fee is distributed to liquidity providers who supply assets to the Stargate Finance pools.
In addition to the protocol fee, you will also pay:
- Source chain gas fee — the standard transaction fee on the originating blockchain
- LayerZero messaging fee — a small fee for the cross-chain message relay
- Destination chain gas fee — may be included automatically via the relayer
The Stargate Finance interface displays a full fee breakdown before you confirm any transaction, so there are no hidden costs.
Most Stargate Finance transfers complete within 10 to 30 seconds, making it one of the fastest cross-chain bridges available. Transfer times can vary slightly depending on:
- The source and destination chains (block time and finality time differ per network)
- Network congestion on either chain at the time of transfer
- The specific asset being bridged
Unlike some bridges that require waiting for fraud proof windows (up to 7 days on optimistic rollups), Stargate Finance provides instant finality guarantees — your funds are committed to arrive the moment you submit the transaction.
The difference between the amount you send and what you receive reflects the total cost of the transfer, which includes:
- The Stargate Finance protocol fee (deducted from the bridged amount)
- LayerZero cross-chain messaging fee
- Any gas subsidies or native token drop for the destination chain
The Stargate Finance UI always shows the exact amount you will receive before you confirm the transaction. You can review the full breakdown by expanding the "Route" and "Total Fee" sections in the bridge widget.
Yes. Stargate Finance supports a native gas drop feature that allows you to receive a small amount of the destination chain's native token along with your bridged assets. This is especially useful if you're bridging to a new chain where you have no gas.
You can enable this option in the Advanced Transfer mode. A small additional fee will be applied to cover the cost of the gas drop. The available gas drop amount is shown in the interface and varies by destination chain and current network conditions.
Stargate Finance has been audited by multiple leading blockchain security firms, including Certik, Quantstamp, and others. The smart contracts have been battle-tested across billions of dollars in transfer volume since the protocol's launch.
Key security properties of Stargate Finance:
- All smart contracts are open-source and verifiable on-chain
- The protocol does not custody user funds — transfers are atomic
- LayerZero's underlying messaging layer uses decentralized oracles and relayers
- Governance is managed by STG token holders via on-chain voting
As with any DeFi protocol, users should exercise caution and only bridge amounts they are comfortable with. Always verify you are using the official Stargate Finance interface.
Stargate Finance provides guaranteed finality on every transfer: if a transaction is confirmed on the source chain, it will be completed on the destination chain. There is no scenario in which your funds are permanently lost due to a Stargate Finance protocol issue.
If a transfer appears delayed:
- Wait a few minutes — some chains have slower finality times
- Check the LayerZero scan (layerzeroscan.com) using your transaction hash to track the message status
- Visit the Stargate Finance Discord or official support channels for assistance
In rare cases of network congestion, the relayer may retry delivery automatically. Your funds are never at risk of being permanently stuck.
Stargate Finance's unified liquidity pool model is specifically designed to minimize slippage. Because all pools hold native assets (not wrapped tokens), there is no AMM-style price impact for same-asset transfers (e.g., USDC on Ethereum → USDC on Arbitrum).
To protect against front-running, Stargate Finance allows you to set a maximum slippage tolerance in the Advanced Transfer settings. If the actual output falls below your minimum, the transaction will revert on the source chain before any funds leave your wallet.
For volatile assets, slippage parameters are especially important and are clearly displayed in the Stargate Finance UI before confirmation.
Stargate Finance has minimum transfer amounts to ensure that gas fees don't exceed the transferred value. Minimums vary by token and chain pair and are displayed dynamically in the interface.
There are currently no maximum limits enforced by the protocol itself for most routes, though individual pool depths may affect large transfers. For very large transfers, Stargate Finance displays the available liquidity and expected price impact so you can make informed decisions.
Governance can adjust pool parameters and limits as part of ongoing protocol management.
STG is the native governance and utility token of the Stargate Finance protocol. STG holders can participate in the governance of Stargate Finance by voting on proposals that affect protocol parameters, fee structures, supported chains, and treasury management.
Key uses of STG:
- Governance: Vote on Stargate Finance Improvement Proposals (SIPs)
- Staking: Lock STG to earn veSTG (vote-escrowed STG) and receive protocol fee rewards
- Liquidity incentives: STG emissions are distributed to liquidity providers in Stargate Finance pools
STG is available on major decentralized exchanges across multiple chains supported by Stargate Finance.
Stargate Finance uses a vote-escrow (ve) model for staking, similar to Curve Finance. When you stake STG, you receive veSTG — a non-transferable token representing your locked position.
Key staking mechanics:
- Lock STG for a chosen duration (up to 3 years) — longer locks yield more veSTG
- veSTG balance decays linearly over time as your lock approaches expiry
- veSTG holders receive a share of protocol fee revenue
- veSTG is required to vote in Stargate Finance governance
You can manage your staking position at any time via the Stake page on the Stargate Finance interface.
Liquidity providers (LPs) on Stargate Finance supply single-sided liquidity — you deposit one asset (e.g., USDC) into the corresponding pool on your preferred chain. In return, you receive LP tokens representing your share of the pool.
As an LP on Stargate Finance, you earn:
- A portion of all bridge fees generated by your pool
- STG token emissions (when applicable via governance incentives)
LP positions can be managed through the Overview page. Note that LPs are exposed to pool rebalancing risk — if one chain's pool is heavily used, the pool balance may shift, potentially affecting withdrawal amounts in extreme scenarios.
You can track live Stargate Finance protocol statistics including total volume, TVL (total value locked), fees, and pool balances directly on the Stargate Finance Overview page.

The Stargate Finance protocol has facilitated billions of dollars in cross-chain volume since launch, making it one of the most widely used bridges in the DeFi ecosystem.
The bridge button may be disabled for several reasons. Check the following:
- Wallet not connected — Click "Connect Wallet" and approve the connection
- No network selected — Choose a source and destination chain
- No token selected — Select an asset to bridge
- Amount too low or zero — Enter an amount above the minimum threshold
- Insufficient balance — Your wallet doesn't have enough of the selected token
- Insufficient gas — You need native tokens on the source chain to pay for gas
- Token approval required — Some tokens require a one-time approval transaction before bridging
The Stargate Finance interface usually displays a tooltip or message explaining why the button is unavailable.
Unfortunately, blockchain transactions are irreversible. Once a Stargate Finance transfer is submitted and confirmed on-chain, neither Stargate Finance nor LayerZero can reverse, stop, or redirect it.
To avoid mistakes:
- Always double-check the destination address before confirming
- Verify the destination chain is correct — the same address on a different chain may not be accessible
- Use the "Custom Address" toggle in Advanced Transfer carefully
- Start with a small test transfer when bridging to a new chain or address
Stargate Finance strongly recommends verifying all details in your wallet's confirmation screen before approving any transaction.
The Stargate Finance community and team are active across multiple channels. Here's where to get help:
- Discord — The primary support channel; post in the #support channel
- Twitter / X — Follow @StargateFinance for official announcements and updates
- Stargate Finance Docs — Comprehensive documentation covering all protocol features
- LayerZero Scan — Track your cross-chain transaction status directly
Be careful of scammers — Stargate Finance support will never DM you first, ask for your private keys or seed phrase, or request you send funds to "recover" a transaction.
